Book review- The Christmas Bake-Off by Abby Clements

The Christmas Bake-Off  The Christmas Bake-Off by Abby Clements
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

With Christmas just around the corner, the residents of Skipley village are gearing up for the annual bake off, and tensions are high.

Winning means a lot to everyone involved - talented cake-shop owner Katie dreams of baking stardom, Rachel wants to prove she's more than a stay-at-home mum, and John hopes his culinary skills will impress the woman he loves.

But when the judges discover that some cakes have been tampered with, the villagers' loyalties are called into question - whose ambition would stretch to sabotage, and why?

The Christmas Bake-Off is an exclusive short story from Abby Clements, author of Meet Me Under the Mistletoe. This ebook edition also includes bonus recipes for cinnamon cookies and vanilla and almond biscuits.

Book review - Elevated by Elana Johnson

Add To Goodreads

ElevatedElevated by Elana Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Read from December 18-19

Summary- The last person seventeen-year-old Eleanor Livingston wants to see on the elevator—let alone get stuck with—is her ex-boyfriend Travis, the guy she's been avoiding for five months.

Plagued with the belief that when she speaks the truth, bad things happen, Elly hasn’t told Trav anything. Not why she broke up with him and cut off all contact. Not what happened the day her father returned from his deployment to Afghanistan. And certainly not that she misses him and still thinks about him everyday.

But with nowhere to hide and Travis so close it hurts, Elly’s worried she won’t be able to contain her secrets for long. She’s terrified of finally revealing the truth, because she can’t bear to watch a tragedy befall the boy she still loves.

 SPOILERS  IN  THIS  REVIEW !

Review - Elly has given up talking to Travis after what happened with Honesty until they get stuck in a elevator and there stuck talking about the past together . Elly is in love with Travis but he's dating Honesty Elly's best friend , Elly thinks every time she speaks bad things happen to the one's she loves she also says allot of childhood songs like bubble gum bubble gum . I loved this book I love verse books it was 300 pages and felt like 100 I read it in a day and a half. I loved the story it was sad and shocking at points I didn't like how Travis treated Elly after he broke up with Honesty he didn't even tell Honesty he was with Elly like what the heck dude sn't it enough you were into Elly but kept dating Honesty You don't do that . what I found shocking was that Elly found out she was pregnant I was like what the hell . I felt bad for Travis is some parts like with his mom and oh my god Jesse he was into Elly also he took Elly to prom because Travis asked him to he was really nice to Elly he was a good friend to her and oh my god Honesty what happened to her was really bad . and when I we find out Elly lost the baby so sad Elly was planing on leaving for California and Elly and Travis left on good terms I loved this book.

Favorite quotes-
it's torture to be reminded of his taste every time I peel an orange

some things are unforgivable some things erase a decade of memories some things obliterate a lifetime of plans .

Best friends can claim it's forever when really it's just until they grow tired of putting up with you .

But I can't stay here without deliverance from the past.
